About rallyaroundtheworld

In 2002, as a testicular cancer survivor and in celebration of his 10th anniversary of being cancer-free, Brad made a solo bicycle trek from San Diego, CA to St. Augustine, FL covering 3,000 miles in 35 days raising money for the American Cancer Society. Rally Kids welcome your support for the inaugural Rally Around the World for Childhood Cancer Research, which will take place July – September 2012 as a solo, around-the-world motorcycle ride to support the Rally Foundation's mission of empowering volunteers to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research. Rally Around the World will mark Brad's upcoming 20th anniversary of being cancer free. The struggles these children endure reach far beyond the personal challenges he faced when fighting cancer and will face on an around-the-world motorcycle ride supporting the Rally Foundation.

Nashville-Natchez Trace Rally – Day 4

Tupelo MS to Nashville TN (200 miles)

Picture is of the storm devastation from a tornado that ripped across the Trace in April 2011.

Riders:  Alan & Ross Grogan, Dave Rose, Kent Nagel (Metro Medical), Brad and SAG Man Tyeler.

Pulled out of Tupelo at 6:45am to beat some of the heat forecasted to reach the mid-90’s and to allow Alan & Ross adequate time from their trip back to Lexington, KY…they had a 420 mile ride for the day ahead of them.

The cool, morning air was refreshing…a biker’s dream and we made great time. Kent Nagel with Metro Medical rented a Harley Ultra Glide and also joined us for the final leg of the Rally…believe he may be sold on the bike!

At Hwy 412 on the Trace we said are farewell’s to Alan and Ross and Dave, Kent & I headed for home in Spring Hill and a late breakfast – early lunch at Hardwood Grill in Thompson Station.

A special thanks to Alan Grogan for organizing this event to raise money for Rally Foundation and getting a few of us working in US healthcare together…a terrific trip!

Natchez MS to Tupelo MS (290 miles)

Departed Natchez MS just after 9am…needed to air up tires and Dave’s Harley was quite low – his fuel range the day before was down to about 150 miles..he was able to significantly increase his mileage today.

Hot, sunny and dry day with temperatures in the low 90’s.

Lunch stop at the French Camp just off the Trace…the BLT was awesome with a side of broccoli salad…dessert was a crazy-good mudslide with ice cream.

Kent Nagel rode in from Nashville to ride back with the group to Nashville on Saturday…dinner at Vanelli’s was terrific with pizza, Greek salad and drinks.

Tupelo, MS to Natchez, MS (275 miles)

Left Tupelo, MS heading south to Natchez, MS about 8:30am with Chuck Miller and Tom & Debbie Sternfels heading back to the north on treks home. The rest of us stopped by the Elvis Presley Museum…the grounds continue to improve with building expansions – a quick tribute to a rock n roll pioneer.

Sunny, breezy and in the low 90’s…made good time on the Trace getting to Natchez around 5pm. Everyone got cleaned up and crossed the MS River for a terrific dinner at Magnolia Grill…great fried tomatoes & shrimp n grits.

Natchez Post-Exhibition Rally

The upcoming NDC International Exhibition in Nashville (May 20-22) provides a great opportunity for dealers and healthcare vendors to participate in a special motorcycle ride.  Alan Grogan, Grogan’s Healthcare Supply, came up with the idea for a group ride beginning at noon on May 23 leaving from Loveless Cafe in Nashville.

The Natchez Trace is a 444-mile, limited-access scenic parkway from Nashville to Natchez, MS.  The first leg will be from Nashville to Tupelo, MS and on to Natchez, MS on Thursday.  From there, we’ll make the 2-day ride back to Nashville arriving on Saturday.

Come join us!

Motorcycle Express – makes shipping your motorcycle abroad easy!!

Motorcycle Express will make all the arrangements for your motorcycle to be shipped, uncrated, by airfreight along with preparing all necessary paperwork and, to make things even better, you can arrange to fly along on the same flight.  I just booked my trip today from London’s Gatwick to Montreal’s Trudeau Airports –  I just drop the bike off the Friday before my Monday flight along with several other minimal requirements.

Motorcycle Express has been shipping motorcycles between North America and Europe for over ten years using a custom designed motorcycle pallet to ship the bike giving you the opportunity to ride your own bike abroad.  They also offer temporary insurance programs – I have opted for the GREEN CARD Program valid all over Europe and Russia.

Call Gail at 800-245-8726 or 516-682-9220 Monday – Friday 9am – 4:30pm EST.

Natchez Trace – Meriwether Lewis Park

Short camping trip to Meriwether Lewis Park off the Natchez Trace Parkway – Meriwether Lewis of Lewis and Clark fame lost his life there from a couple of gunshot wounds…much debate on whether self-inflicted or from someone there at the local inn.

Anyhow, the trip was a good opportunity to use some of the gear – cooked some freeze dried chicken n rice for dinner and oatmeal and grits for breakfast.   Shanon did terrific since she had the mattress…Me? – quite a few rocks on the ground making for a restless night, but the weather was terrific and a nice fire last night made up for it!
